New Studies Deliver Harsh Verdicts on Mask Mandates, Vaccine Mandates for U.S. Cities
Feb 24 2023
“Two new studies on the effectiveness of mask mandates and city-level COVID-19 vaccine mandates concluded the policies failed to achieve their promised objectives. The study on vaccine mandates found the mandates caused economic harm.
Researchers found city-level vaccine mandates to have, at most, a negligible effect on vaccination rates, while conversely having a negative effect on cities’ economies.
Commenting on the study, California attorney Rita Barnett told The Defender:
“Shutting people out of society or denying them employment for refusing to take a medical treatment they do not want, need or trust violates all fundamental ethical principles — and local businesses and leaders who went along with these measures may suffer the consequences for many years to come.”

The new scientific review on masks and Covid isn’t what you think
A meta-analysis seeks to be the last word on the effectiveness of masks, but finding answers in science isn’t that easy.

The Mask Mandates Did Nothing. Will Any Lessons Be Learned?
Bret Stephens, Opinion piece
Feb. 21, 2023
“When it comes to the population-level benefits of masking, the verdict is in: Mask mandates were a bust. Those skeptics who were furiously mocked as cranks and occasionally censored as “misinformers” for opposing mandates were right. The mainstream experts and pundits who supported mandates were wrong. In a better world, it would behoove the latter group to acknowledge their error, along with its considerable physical, psychological, pedagogical and political costs.
Don’t count on it. In congressional testimony this month, Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, called into question the Cochrane analysis’s reliance on a small number of Covid-specific randomized controlled trials and insisted that her agency’s guidance on masking in schools wouldn’t change. If she ever wonders why respect for the C.D.C. keeps falling, she could look to herself, and resign, and leave it to someone else to reorganize her agency.”

George Mason study finds ‘no evidence’ that vaccine mandates in major cities reduced COVID-19 cases
Feb 23 2023
“A new study from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University concluded that COVID-19 vaccine mandates in nine major cities did not appear to make a difference in terms of curbing cases deaths from the pandemic.
The study examined mandates and statistics from Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, D.C.”
