Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signs bills prohibiting vaccine, mask mandates in state
DeSantis’ bills also protect doctors who offer alternative COVID-19 treatments other than those recommended by federal agencies

“The legislation also formally denounces World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations in Florida. It also protects alternative COVID-19 treatments.
“You should have the right to try these [alternative COVID-19 treatments] under the supervision of your physician, and that is protected in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said.
Another component of the legislation is Senate Bill 1387, which bans gain-of-function research. DeSantis said gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China, was likely to blame for the pandemic.
Senate Bill 1580 also ensures freedom of speech and whistleblower protections for physicians.
“We want our physicians practicing evidence based medicine. We don’t want it to just defer to authority or to just follow the herd,” DeSantis explained. “So that is now law in the state of Florida.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said last week that he plans to petition the state’s Supreme Court to convene a grand jury to investigate “any and all wrongdoing” with regard to the COVID-19 vaccines, notably how the messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines marketed by Pfizer/ BioNTech and Moderna/NIAID were developed, how they were used in Florida and any harm that they may have caused.
Gov. DeSantis said that the pharmaceutical industry has a
“notorious history” of misleading the public for public gain
… and noted that there are questions about the “veracity of the representations” made by the companies that developed and manufactured the mRNA COVID shots, “particularly with respect to transmission, prevention, efficacy and safety.” He stressed, “An investigation is warranted to determine whether the pharmaceutical industry has engaged in fraudulent practices.”

DeSantis said that he will establish a Public Health Integrity Committee to “assess federal public health recommendations and guidance” related to COVID “to ensure that Florida’s public health policies are tailored for Florida’s communities and priorities. Along with Dr. Ladapo, who will lead the investigation, the committee will include Drs. Fraiman and Høeg, Jay Bhattacharya, MD, PhD; Martin Kuldorff, PhD; Christine Stabell Benn, MD, PhD; Bret Weinstein, PhD and Steven Templeton, PhD.”

The Florida Department of Health has issued a notice indicating it will start issuing $5,000 fines to businesses, schools, and government agencies that require Floridians to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
The health department rule, which goes into effect on Sept. 16, details the penalties that businesses and other entities, including nonprofits, face for violating section 381.00316 of the 2021 Florida Statutes, which prohibits them from requiring customers or patrons to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination or post infection recovery in order to gain access to their premises or services.”
